Supernatural had a whopping 15 seasons, and countless fans continue to celebrate the spooky show long after it aired its last episode. Now, fans of the show have something special to celebrate…the real-life union of two of the show’s most unexpected stars. Supernatural stars Ruth Connell (who played Rowena MacLeod, the Queen of Hell) and Rob Benedict (who portrayed God himself) are now engaged.

It’s possible that the two Supernatural stars wanted to keep the fact that they are now engaged a secret for a little longer. However, Benedict was at a Salute to The Boys convention in New Jersey recently, and during a panel, he casually referred to his longtime romantic partner Connell as “my fiancée.” Now, the two have confirmed their engagement, and fans everywhere are looking forward to what famous English writer William Blake might have called the marriage of Heaven and Hell given the nature of their very different characters.

While their characters may be very different from one another, that didn’t keep Benedict and Connell from really hitting it off behind the camera. It’s not entirely clear when their relationship first started, but during 2020, fans began putting together some potent clues, including the fact that they appeared together on the same camera during a Zoom event intended as a political fundraiser. They have been much more open about their relationship in recent years, but Supernatural fans were still surprised and delighted to learn that the two are engaged.

Welcomed A Child In January

Of course, some of those fans felt that marriage was inevitable between Benedict and Connell because their baby girl was born on January 12 of this year. Judging from their social media posts, two things are quite clear: the only thing these two love more than each other is their baby. The Supernatural stars seem like great parents, and as fans of the show ourselves, we’re hyped that they are engaged and will become husband and wife in the near future (currently, no wedding date is officially set).

Interestingly, even as Supernatural fandom celebrates these two getting engaged, we have all been looking back on some of the other unexpected romances the show created. The most famous example of this is that series lead Jared Padalecki met his future wife Genevieve on set when she joined the show’s fourth season in 2008; the happy couple got married in 2010. Furthermore, Supernatural stars DJ Qualls and Ty Olsson never met onscreen, but after meeting and falling in love at a fan convention for the show, they announced they were engaged earlier this year.

All About The Love

There’s a certain irony here, of course: after all, Supernatural is a show about two brothers who have to fight demons and anything else that goes bump in the night in episode after episode. Offscreen, however, the show seems all about love, both in the endless fan adoration for the cast and the cast members themselves frequently finding one another. It’s a sentiment that Padalecki’s character on The Boys would certainly mock, but we love that so many of our favorite Supernatural actors have proven that their love is stronger than any demon.
