More than 400 couples will formalize their union in Xmatkuil mass wedding

Next Saturday, November 30, 414 couples will get married in the collective weddings of the Xmatkuil Fair 2024, organized by the state program “Formalize your Union,” reported the director of the Civil Registry, Jorge Carlos de María Ramírez.

The official explained that it will not only be a legal act, but a celebration of diversity and inclusion in the state since they aim to cover all sectors of society with the constitutional process.

He specified that the emphasis on inclusion is reflected in the registration of 111 Maya-speaking couples, who have historically faced barriers to accessing public services such as the Civil Registry.

For the first time in the history of group weddings, people who are not originally from Yucatan but have established their residence in the state have been allowed to participate. Thanks to this change, 30 couples from other regions were included, who will formalize their commitment as part of the initiative.
