Mayor Cecilia Patron revealed that the Mérida City Council is aware of two cases of sexual harassment against female municipal employees, which are already being addressed, to guarantee that the municipality is a space free of violence against women.
She mentioned that one complaint was filed during the last administration and the other during the current municipal government, facts that the Municipal Comptroller’s Office is already aware of, a department handling these cases through an investigation, to determine the possible sanctions that may be imposed. The mayor pointed out that among the sanctions that the accused may receive, there is training on equality, to raise awareness and seek that equality, since “it is not only punishing for the sake of punishing but also for them to understand where they are failing, which is the problem”, to eradicate this violence against women.
She added that the accused are not separated from the position because they are under an investigation process, since the municipality is adhering to the violence protocol they have, to act under a regulatory framework within the law, although he reiterated that his government’s commitment is to prevent this type of cases from occurring in the municipality.
“All the directors are committed to ensuring no sexual harassment or harassment against any municipal employee in the city council. We are going to be very attentive and vigilant when this happens. To those who suffer from this grievance, I ask them to report it, because they have an ally in me,” concluded the municipal president.
