If you’ve scrolled Instagram, YouTube or Tik Tok, you’ve probably seen tons of different fitness coaches and trainers, but how do you know if a trainer is legit?
Over the years I’ve watched hundreds of people start to sell training and nutrition programs online with ZERO certifications, zero experience training actual clients and no oversight.
It’s not just misleading, it’s dangerous.
Helping guide someone’s training and nutrition is a HUGE responsibility and I don’t take it lightly.
So, whether you workout with me in MOVE or choose another plan, here’s why you should make sure it’s with a Certified Personal Trainer.
Why Train with a Certified Personal Trainer?
A trainer who has been certified through a nationally accredited program like NASM have to take intensive courses and tests to be educated in :
- Basic exercises science
- Human movement science
- Fitness assessments
- Program design and the Optimum Performance Training (OPT) model
- Speed, agility, and quickness training
- Nutrition best practices
- Client interaction and professional development
Like many professions, we’re also required to complete a certain amount of continuing education to ensure we are staying up to date in the latest techniques, research and training methods.
I personally have completed over 20 various training specializations including pre & post natal training, agility, yoga and recently received a new certification as a Behavioral Change Specialist from NASM.
Not ALL certifications are created equal.
Whether you’re looking for a trainer or to get certified yourself, make sure you find a program that is nationally accredited.
This is really the only way to make sure it’s 100% legit and meets the highest training standards.
The National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) is one of the most respected and reputable companies and where I get my certifications.
If you’re looking to expand your knowledge or even become a trainer yourself, definitely check them out.
