BMKG warns of extreme weather in North Sulawesi until Nov 7

Manado (ANTARA) – The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) forecasts that most areas of North Sulawesi are likely to experience extreme weather in the coming days.

“Be aware of the potential for extreme weather until November 7, 2024,” said Ben A. Molle, Coordinator of Observation and Information at the BMKG Sam Ratulangi Manado Meteorological Station, on Tuesday.

He urged residents to exercise caution and stay alert for landslides, floods, and falling trees when carrying out activities in extreme weather conditions.

“Residents living in disaster-prone areas—such as along riverbanks, on hills, or in steep regions—must remain vigilant against landslides or floods,” he advised.

Molle noted that most of the province could experience moderate to heavy rainfall today, which may be accompanied by lightning and strong winds. Extreme weather conditions are expected to affect 12 of the region’s 15 districts and cities.

The areas likely to be impacted include Tomohon, Bitung, Manado City, Minahasa, North Minahasa, South Minahasa, and Southeast Minahasa.

Other areas at risk include Bolaang Mongondow, North Bolaang Mongondow, the Sitaro Islands, Sangihe Islands, and Talaud Islands.

On November 6, extreme weather is expected in East Bolaang Mongondow, South Bolaang Mongondow, and the Talaud Islands.

On November 7, similar weather conditions are anticipated in South Minahasa, North Bolaang Mongondow, and South Bolaang Mongondow.
