Free Nutritious Meal Program offers myriad benefits: governor

Palangka Raya, C Kalimantan (ANTARA) – The Free Nutritious Meal Program initiated by the Prabowo-Gibran administration offers a wide range of benefits, addressing both nutritional needs and economic opportunities, according to Central Kalimantan Governor Sugianto Sabran.

“It is extraordinary, especially in terms of its economic impact, as it involves various sectors, including food crop farmers, livestock breeders, and others,” Sabran remarked on Tuesday.

He emphasized that the economic benefits to local communities are among the key advantages of the free healthy meal program, which is managed by the central government.

Sabran also pointed out that while the initiative may seem simple at first, it provides significant benefits not only to its direct beneficiaries — such as schoolchildren and pregnant women — but also to those involved in its implementation.

He noted that the program has the potential to stimulate the regional economy, adding that its primary objective is to meet the nutritional needs of the community, especially children, to ensure their optimal growth and development.

“It (the Free Nutritious Meal Program) is an excellent initiative and must be supported,” Sabran stated.

The pilot phase of the Free Nutritious Meal Program took place on Monday (November 4) at SD Negeri 1 Langkai, a public elementary school in Palangka Raya City, Central Kalimantan. Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka personally observed the event.

“The menu includes white rice, fried chicken, stir-fried vegetables, a boiled egg, a banana, milk, and water,” Gibran noted.

He explained that the program trial aligns with President Prabowo Subianto’s vision and is being expanded to regions outside Java Island to ensure more equitable improvements in the nation’s human resources.
