Keyshawn Davis says he knows he’s the one that will beat Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis, and he’s waiting for him to send the contract for him to sign so they can fight. That fight will NEVER happen unless Keyshawn fights Andy Cruz and beats him.
Tank will forever use that as a reason not to fight Keyshawn, and it’s understandable why he chose to take that stance. If Keyshawn lacks the confidence to fight the Cuban Andy Cruz, it’s a 100% sign that he only wants to fight the ‘Big Tuna’ Tank Davis for the life-changing payday he’ll get from fighting him. In other words, Keyshawn views Tank as a money tree.
Why Is Keyshawn Calling Out Tank?
The 2020 Olympic silver medalist Keyshawn, 25, has been calling out WBA lightweight champion Tank (30-0, 28 KOs) since his second-round knockout win over Gustavo Lemos on November 8th.
It appears to be a strategy behind the callouts, using Tank’s name to get attention on his career rather than it being any serious intent.
Before Keyshawn’s fight with the tiny 5’5″ Lemos, it had already been set up for that fight to be an eliminator for the WBO lightweight title held by Denys Berinchyk (19-0, 9 KOs. Keyshawn is now mandatory for the Top Rank-promoted Berinchyk, and he’s already talking about fighting him next.
Keyshawn (12-0, 8 KOs) has resisted the idea of fighting 2020 Olympic gold medalist Andy Cruz, who beat him four times in the amateurs, who refers to him as “My son.” He doesn’t want to fight the Cuban and is taking an easier path against fighters like Lemos, Miguel Madueno, and now Berinchyk.
Is Top Rank Building A Hype Job?
Many fans view Keyshawn as a fake, another Edgar Berlanga type of fighter that Top Rank is building, trying to make him look better than he is with careful matchmaking. Hence, Keyshawn isn’t being matched against Andy Cruz because he’ll lose, and all the time that Top Rank spent developing him will have been wasted.
Bernardo Osuna: “You called out the big dog in the division inside the ring with Mark Kriegel interviewed you. What do you know about Tank Davis that some of us don’t that makes you confident that in just your 14th fight that you can go in there and defeat Tank Davis?”
Keyshawn Davis: “I just know who I am. Outside of me being in the ring twice with Tank already sparring, I felt him out. I understand how he thinks. I just understand boxing. Again, I know who I am. I know I can beat Tank. I know I’m going to be the one that beats Tank.
“Whenever he’s ready, he’s going to send me a contract, and I’m going to sign it, and we’re going to fight.
